What is the Liked, Disliked, Learned retrospective?

Liked, Disliked, Learned is a simple three-column retro: what people enjoyed, what they did not, and what they learned along the way. It is the 4Ls with fewer columns, and the Learned column keeps the session from becoming a list of complaints.

The columns

  1. Liked
  2. Disliked
  3. Learned

When to use it

Use it for short retros, for teams new to retrospectives, or after training, onboarding or a hackathon.

Facilitator tip: read the Learned column first. It sets a curious tone before the team gets to Disliked, and it often explains why the disliked things happened. If Disliked fills up with the same theme, group it into one card and give it the whole discussion slot.

How to run it in Peel in 5 steps

  1. Create a Liked · Disliked · Learned board and share the link.
  2. Give five minutes of silent writing.
  3. Reveal all cards and group duplicates.
  4. Vote on Disliked items and discuss the top two or three.
  5. Agree on actions and capture key learnings somewhere the team will see them again.
