What is the Garden Retro retrospective?
The Garden retro uses a gardening metaphor: Seeds are new ideas, Flowers are what is blooming, Weeds are what needs pulling, and Water is what the team needs to grow. It is gentle and growth-oriented.
The columns
- Seeds
- Flowers
- Weeds
- Water
When to use it
Use it in spring, for teams focused on growth and learning, or after a difficult period.
Facilitator tip: ask each person to plant one Seed and pull one Weed. The pairing keeps the session balanced, and the Water column turns into a list of support the team needs from outside, which is useful input for a manager or product owner.
