What is the Kitchen Retro retrospective?

The Kitchen retro uses cooking: Ingredients are what we had to work with, Burnt is what went wrong, Seasoning is the little touch that made things better, and Next dish is what we will cook next. Peel's version comes with a Turkish wink: çay demlendi, the tea is brewed.

The columns

  1. Ingredients
  2. Burnt
  3. Seasoning
  4. Next dish

When to use it

Use it for relaxed retros, with teams that like food metaphors, or around team lunches and celebrations.

Facilitator tip: put the kettle on, literally. The kitchen theme works best when the retro feels informal, so let people bring a drink and start with the Seasoning column: small things that made the sprint better are easy to share and set a warm tone.

How to run it in Peel in 5 steps

  1. Create a Kitchen board and share the link.
  2. Write for five minutes in all columns.
  3. Reveal and group the Burnt items.
  4. Vote and discuss what burned and why.
  5. Plan the Next dish with actions and owners.
