What is the Treasure Map retrospective?
The Treasure Map retro turns the goal into treasure: Treasure is what we are after, Path is the route that worked, Traps are pitfalls we fell into or avoided, and Crew is who helped. It is an engaging way to discuss strategy and teamwork together.

When to use it
Use it at the start or middle of a project, for planning-oriented retros, or for teams that like adventure themes.
Facilitator tip: mark the traps the team avoided as well as the ones it fell into. Avoided traps show what the team already does well, and they are worth writing down so the next project, or the next new joiner, can avoid them too.
How to run it in Peel in 5 steps
- Create a Treasure map board and define the Treasure.
- Write Path, Traps and Crew cards for six minutes.
- Reveal and group the Traps.
- Vote and discuss how to avoid them.
- Thank the Crew and plan the next steps.
