What is the Sprint Goal Review retrospective?

The Sprint Goal Review checks the sprint against its goals: Achieved, Partially, Missed, and Why. It keeps the retro anchored to outcomes rather than activity, and the Why column turns misses into learning.

The columns

  1. Achieved
  2. Partially
  3. Missed
  4. Why

When to use it

Use it when the team regularly misses goals, for sprint reviews, or to make goals more meaningful.

Facilitator tip: phrase goals as outcomes before the session ("customers can export a PDF"), not as tasks. Outcome goals make Achieved and Missed easy to agree on, and the Why column then points to planning, scope or dependencies rather than individuals.

How to run it in Peel in 5 steps

  1. Create a Sprint goal review board and list the goals.
  2. Place each goal in Achieved, Partially or Missed.
  3. Write Why cards for the partial and missed goals.
  4. Vote on the most important causes.
  5. Agree on how to set or protect goals next sprint.
